Le Mozart Noir, adored by women, was a consumate musician and conductor, master swordsman, and fighter during the French Revolution

A special evening on the life and times of the illustrious Joseph Boulogne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, son of a French planter of the lesser nobility in the Caribbean and a woman of African heritage. The story of the improbable rise of this amazing man to prominence as one of the most important violinists and conductors in 18th-century Paris will be told in this multimedia evening featuring a new ballet by Valerie Shelton Tabor of Contemporary Ballet Dallas, with period social dance by Baroque choreographer Catherine Turocy and Haitian dance expert Marcea Daiter. Prominent of course will be lots of intriguing music by the Chevalier, also one of the great swordsmen of the time, who conducted the premieres of Franz Josef Haydn’s Paris Symphonies with his Orchestre de la Loge Olympique, which commissioned them, with the Chevalier contracting with Haydn on behalf of the Count d’Ogny. This unique evening, funded by a grant from the Donna Wilhelm Family Fund of TACA, will be given in cooperation with the Booker T. Washington School for the Arts, in their fabulous Montgomery Arts Theater.
